Step back in time and learn about Jones County's history.

Proudly located in the Free State of Jones

The Deason Home was completed in 1845, making it the oldest standing home in Jones County.  The first owners, Amos and Eleanor Deason, owned 700 acres in what is now Ellisville,  Built as a farmhouse, it was the first painted home in the area.

- Owned by The Tallahala Chapter, NSDAR  -

Newton Knight, self proclaimed governor of the Free State of Jones, stealthily entered the home and shot Major Amos McLemore during the Civil War.  As a result of this bloody murder, the Deason Home has earned the reputation of being one of the most haunted homes in Mississippi!
